'' I live in Hillmeade Apartments on Hwy 70 in the West Meade/Bellevue area. I saw 2 coyotes about 2 weeks ago around 730am on a weekday morning. I stopped my car to get a better look before I realized they were coyotes. I was about 10 feet away from one of the coyotes. It just stood there and stared at me...didn't even try to run. I drove off before they budged. I'm guessing they were after the geese and ducks that live on the property, but it's very scary that all of the people and cars don't scare them off. ''

Fast moving coyote spotted on Oakland & Rosewood at 2 :44 am Thursday, Dec 17. The coyote proceeded to run to the 1800 block of Beechwood Avenue and disappear into a backyard.
I saw two coyotes at approx 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 while walking on the main road in Percy Warner Park. The area is identified on a park map as the "Reams Hollow" area, between the Steeplechase grounds and Hwy. 100. I was accompanied by a friend and I was walking my Jack Russell Terrier. One of the coyotes ran away, but the other coyote stood right next to the road (like a sentry) and observed us as we approached. Then it entered the road and began walking straight toward us. The coyote did not run but it moved steadily toward us, walking right down the center of the road. We turned around and began walking quickly in the other direction. I turned back to look several times and saw that the coyote was still following us. When we rounded a curve in the road, I lost sight of the coyote and it did not reappear. I reported this sighting to park employees at the nature center and they said that this was aggressive behavior and that the coyote might have been establishing the area as its territory.
As a reminder, parts of the road in Percy Warner were closed in 2002 due to aggressive behavior by coyotes.
NOTE ** This makes six sightings on Overlook Drive since July, 2009**

''As I came home earlier this evening (5:10 or so), a coyote ran in front of my vehicle and sat next to the road, in a neighbor's yard. This was just a few houses down from my home on Overlook Dr. I stopped my car and tried to scare off the coyote, but it just sat there and watched me until I drove on. I pulled into my driveway and it was gone.
About 15 minutes later, as I was turning on my outside lights, I noticed it in my next door neighbor's yard, where it crossed the road and ran through the neighbor's yard across the street, then down 33rd toward Fairfax.
Just wanted to let everyone know, especially since I know there are a lot of people that walk along Overlook, some with their pets.''

''I saw 2 very large coyotes in my backyard about 2 months ago on Hillside Drive (between Natchez Trace and Blair), but didnt know of this website at the time. We and our neighbors have been hearing coyotes a couple of times each week in the middle of the night. This Saturday 12/5/09, coyotes came after my dog - luckily I was out with her and we scared them off, yesterday 12/6/09 my next door neighbors dog was attacked in his yard.''
''I just wanted to report that I have been hearing coyote attacks in the middle of the night (approximately 3-5 AM) several times a week. I live on Overlook Dr. in the Hillsboro/West End neighborhood and the attacks are taking place behind our home between Hillside Dr. and Overlook Dr. (about 2 blocks apart). It sounds similar to 7+ dogs yelping and fighting each other, but there are likely only a few present at a time. I have been awoken to these attacks for the past 3 ½ months. Also, two neighbors’ dogs were attacked in the late evening (7-10 pm) last week, the week of November 30th. These neighbors live on Hillside Drive. An additional sighting in the middle of the street (Overlook Dr. between 32nd and 33rd Ave N blocks) in the daylight last week (approx. 2-4 pm), week of Nov. 30th ''
''I live on W. Linden & had to scare away two coyotes from our backyard at 6am this morning. Ended up having to run at them and yell to get them to leave the area.'' Nov 20, 2009
NOTE ** This makes three sightings on West Linden in Nov, 2009 **
'' A coyote ran across Blair Blvd in front of my car, just west of the church on the corner Natchez Trace last week around 7:00pm. It looked fat and healthy.'' Nov 19, 2009
''We saw one at 5:45 p.m. in the alley behind our house.A few minutes later, it approached the back patio of a neighbor's house, then darted away. For those who are outside in the early evening hours,be aware that they aren't just late night visitors anymore.'', Nov 19, 2009- Overlook Drive
'' saw a coyote in my yard around 4 am on west linden'', Nov 17, 2009
''We spotted a coyote in our driveway on Westwood Ave. Saturday night
''I had a run in with a coyote on the trail at Edwin Warner park when my dog and I were hiking this morning. I immediately took her off the leash, so she could run if she needed to (shes a 104 lb lab-rottweiller mix), and I yelled as loud as I could and then turned around and walked back down the trail.'' 11:20 am Nov 15, 2009
''My Nashville coyote sighting was about two weeks ago on a Sunday night at around 1:30 AM. I was driving home from work into my condo complex located on Harding Place next to Harding Academy when my headlights hit what I thought was a large dog. But as I got closer I realized that the mangy creature was a coyote. It was pretty big for a coyote which means it has a good food source. He sauntered across Harding Place and over to the golf course''
''2 young coyotes sighted on W. Linden on Nov. 1, 2009 at 11:45 pm. They loomed for a minute, then decided to start trailing me and my large dog until I turned around and stomped my feet loudly and started running toward them with my dog, barking. They darted behind the houses were a creek runs. On Tuesday morning, I noticed they had a little party in my backyard, shredding trash and shredding into pieces the rope/line I had for my dog. They even pulled up the stake from the ground. My backyard is 3/4 fenced in. I think they drank from the creek and smelled the territory markings of my dog, who now smells their markings.''

Since December of 2008 and into 2009- Here is a list of some areas within the BELMONT BLVD/GREEN HILLS areas that have reported numerous COYOTE SIGHTINGS/MISSING PETS. This list is gathered from people reporting sightings/cats missing via emails , neighborhood listservs and discussions with people in the community. This list is not an accurate count of the amount of sightings/missing pets. There is a strong probablility of the numbers being higher .
A dog was killed last year by coyotes last year as he was in his yard in Green Hills. See full story under links blog.
Big problems around the HAMPTON AVENUE area with several pets missing. Given that a coyote has a range of 15 plus miles and that range reduces to around 4 when pups are around, the neighborhood is looking at some serious upcoming coyote issues.
Keep in mind, a coyote is about food, breeding and keeping pups safe. Litters can be 1 to 8 pups.. the most on record has been 17. When a coyote's range is reduced due to puppies, our neighborhoods are at more risk for increased activity.. those pups need to eat.
Be vigilant! Show them who is the boss here and makes LOTS of noise if you see them. It is also recommended that citizens start to carry mace when out walking the dog.
SHARONDALE AVENUE- One large male and one female coyote were spotted at around 10 pm. The male coyote was not afraid of the people who saw him and kept approaching the two people despite them making noise. Eventually, the male coyote backed down and the coyote couple moved on.
Please make note that this was close to the Trinity Presbyterian Church off of Hillsboro Pike where many people walk their dogs.

RESIDENT OF WEST MEADE- ''We have seen coyotes a couple of times in our yard the past couple of weeks. One night around 10:30 I had my small breed dog out in the front yard (she was off leash, and I was a few feet away).I heard a rustling in the bushes and a large coyote ran parallel to me and my dog and up to the top of the driveway and stared me down. I rand at the coyote and waved my arms and yelled. It was in no hurry to get away from me but finally did run away.I used to live in the Granny White/Harding Place area and several times saw some smaller coyotes at dusk. Now I live on Jocelyn Hollow near the cross street at Gun Club Rd. This coyote was really big with a big bushy tail.''

WEST HILLWOOD- MARCH'09, Neighbor found remains of cat, apparent victim of a coyote attack
RESIDENT OF WEST MEADE- ''On Monday 4/20, a coyote was spotted walking across the Fleetwood Dr./Greeley Dr. intersection in West Meade (near Nashville West) about 6:00 p.m. (broad daylight). The next evening (dusk, maybe 7:15), Tuesday 4/21 the same coyote was walking up Greeley Dr. towards W. Hillwood, and turned right to access the dry creekbed that ends at Brook Hollow. This seems to be a male by his size – looked to be about 75 pounds, more reddish-brown than gray-brown. I mistook him for a neighbor’s Belgian Malinois at first, because of the amount of daylight and coloring.''
RESIDENT OF WEST MEADE- May 17- 2009, ''My dog Max got bitten by a coyote this morning at 9:00am on Greely - near those woods on corner. He is fine and no broken skin. Max chased him and then the coyote turned around and snapped at him. Max ran back to me and the coyote just kept starring at us. We threw rocks at him and he ran away. Medium build.''
RESIDENT OF WEST MEADE- May 20- 2009, " I saw a coyote tonight on Currywood Drive, somewhere between Brownlee Dr. and Robin Hill Rd. It was around 9:15 pm, give or take a few minutes. I was so shocked, I didn't have the presence of mind to make a note of the exact location or look at a mailbox. Anyhow, it was kind of scrawny (either slightly juvenile or underfed) and crossed the road in front of me with what appeared to be a small mammal (squirrel sized) hanging limply from its mouth. It was definitely not a cat.''
BELLEVUE- 1000 block of General George Patton, off Sawyer Brown Road
SOUTH NASHVILLE- November 13, 2009
''My family has been awakened at least 3 or 4 nights a week for the past month by a pack of coyotes in the Bradford Hills/Holt Woods neighborhoods in south Nashville. I live on Cobble Street, toward the back of the Bradford Hills neighborhood. Our neighborhood is accessible via Nolensville Road to the east; Holt Road to the south; and Edmondson Pike via Mt. Pisgah to the west. My backyard backs up to a small farm property that has a few cows and a barn. This may be the original land owner of the neighborhood. The barn is right behind my house. We hear the coyotes anywhere from 1am to 4am and sometimes twice in the same night with an hour or so in between. I have tried unsuccessfully to catch of view of the pack but have not been able to as of yet. They are very LOUD, always yelping, yapping, screeching and howling and are directly behind my house and, no doubt, in my back yard. A couple of weeks ago I got up and walked out on the deck to scare them away…I could hear the pack running away through the field behind my house, but at least one was very stubborn and stayed hidden behind a large oak tree about 20 ft from the edge of my deck…he kept growling a low growl and then I finally heard him slowly trot away. The pack has several coyotes in it, but I don’t know how many. Like I said, I haven’t been able to actually see them but when they are howling and “stirring it up” it sounds like 5 or 6 or more. Last year, I chased a coyote out of our yard while it was attacking and eating a rabbit (it’s a horrible noise to witness). I chased it from my backyard to the front where the coyote dropped the dead rabbit and then walked out into the street. The coyote just stood there watching me…I’m sure he wanted to come back over and pick up the rabbit. I ran at him and he took off heading east across from my house and to the end of a culdesac…he kept stopping and looking back and finally disappeared between the houses at the end of the culdesac…this was around 2am. I have lived in the same house for around 7 years and have seen a coyote from time to time…but this is the first time that I have heard an entire pack of coyotes carrying on loudly and also returning to the same area several nights a week and sometimes several times in the same night. ''
