Coyote Awareness in Nashville, TN

Resources on what to do if you are concerned about coyotes are seemingly hard to come by for Nashvillians. You might contact Metro Animal control and they probably  will direct you to the TWRA website to read a pamphlet. You might also get directed to the Metro Health Department and they can speak with you about your concerns and perhaps mention the recent forum on coyotes available on Metro's Channel  3- see below for more information. 

It would be great to know that this sort of thing was being implimented .. this was 5 years ago.

RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-609

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Health Department to collaborate with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to develop and distribute information to citizens about combating the growing nuisance of coyotes in Davidson County.

WHEREAS, although coyotes are not native to Middle Tennessee, coyotes have increasingly immigrated to this area over the past several decades; and

WHEREAS, coyotes have a natural ability to move stealthily in urbanized environments and have recently been spotted on a frequent basis in various residential areas of Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, coyotes have been known to catch and kill small animals, such as domestic dogs and cats; and

WHEREAS, the growing number of coyotes in our community has caused residents to fear for the safety of their pets, and even their children; and

WHEREAS, many residents of Nashville and Davidson County lack information about how to protect their pets from coyotes and keep coyotes off of their property; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Health Department and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency work together to create an informational booklet for distribution to citizens about combating coyotes in Nashville and Davidson County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Health Department to collaborate with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to develop and distribute information to citizens about combating the growing nuisance of coyotes in Davidson County.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Dr. Stephanie Bailey, the Chief Medical Director for the Metropolitan Government, and to Gary T. Myers, the Executive Director of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
